Senator Nelson, in all of your years I should think that by now you would have learned that there are some things in life that are simply not eligable for compromise. If only you had noticed the intestinal fortitude of Senator Joe Lieberman.
You see, for Joe Lieberman, there IS an underlying truth that guides his decisions. That underlying truth tells him that it is not okay to compromise on the security of Israel. It is not okay to say that we will agree to Only a Little Threat to Jews in exchange for "whatever."
But it seems that for Ben Nelson, in order to gain some perceived benefit for Nebraska, it is acceptable to agree to Slaughter Just a Few Babies on the dime of all taxpayers.
Senator Lieberman demonstrated that no matter the intense pressure from peers, no matter the personal political cost to career, he has shown his strength of character.
Senator Ben Nelson, it would seem, has shown us the exact opposite.
You said it right. Nelson is going to pay for that down the road. He must be ready to retire. I don't think Nebraska would be a wise location. People in Nebraska are not happy with him. People all over the country are not happy with him.
